Machaut Machaut’s Story
Purrfect Angels Cat Rescue Gloucester County, NJ
Machaut (named after a 14th century composer)
is an adorable, affectionate rescue, who turned
6 in August. He is extremely friendly, clever, and
playful and has a brotherly bond with his litter
mate, Dufay. In addition, this fluffy little guy is
unbelievably affectionate towards humans and
is constantly looking for head scratches and
belly rubs.
One extraordinary feature of Machaut’s is his
huge, beautiful paws and his remarkable way of
using them to communicate. When presented
with food options, he clearly, and unmistakably,
lets us know his preference by actually
pointing at it, and meowing, just to be sure we
understand.
But perhaps the most extraordinary thing about
Machaut is how he came to be a member of our
family.
Years ago, an older, rather ill woman found
2 tiny kittens in her backyard. They were
extremely young, fragile, and in desperate need
of care. Despite the woman’s health challenges,
she committed immediately to caring for
these 2 sweet creatures. This act of kindness
wound up being one of the last things she did.
As her health continued to deteriorate, this
compassionate woman entrusted the young
kittens to Purrfect Angels, an all-volunteer, no-
kill cat rescue in southern NJ—with the promise
that they’d find the brothers a loving home. The
rescue took that responsibility quite seriously, as
did the family who decided to adopt them.
Those 2 kittens were Machaut and Dufay, and
that family was our family. To this day, we try
to honor the woman who took in the kittens
and try to sustain her generosity by giving
them the best life possible. For Machaut,
it’s an extraordinary history. For us, it’s an
extraordinary honor.
