Sweet Serena Sweet Serena’s Story
Levittown, PA
Hope for the Animals
Hello. My name is Serena. I’m telling my story from
the far end of the Rainbow Bridge, which I crossed
very recently. But my journey to this destination has
been a long and happy one.
I arrived at Yvonne’s house in February 2006 with
my sister Sophie. We were 9 months old. Yvonne
had just lost her beloved dogs, Boris & Natasha.
Having kittens brought new joy into the house.
Sophie and I loved our new home. But as the
offspring of a feral cat, we would not allow Yvonne
to pick us up – for years. The only exception is
when I walked outside of the railing on the upstairs
landing, lost my balance, and fell through the
Tiffany lamp on the first floor. Luckily, only my pride
was hurt. Yvonne made sure that never happened
again.
Sophie and I were very different. She was regal
and a bit stand-offish. However, I had a very sweet
nature. I loved to curl up on Yvonne’s lap and roll
on my back. When Yvonne was reading in bed at
night, I would nuzzle and knock the book out of her
hands. I particularly loved to come downstairs and
greet Yvonne with a soft “Meow” when she came
home from work (okay, I knew food was coming).
Yvonne said my sweet nature was extraordinary.
My resiliency was also extraordinary, I’m told.
Over the years, Sophie and I welcomed many new
companions into the household – Lucky Duck, Davi,
and HoneyBunny (the dogs) and Baby (the cat). I
loved them all, and they all left. Then, three years
ago, I had to say goodbye to Sophie. Yvonne was
worried I wouldn’t survive losing my sister. But I
did. I also lived for years with hyperthyroidism and
thrived.
Finally, my longevity has been extraordinary. Not
many cats live until they are 201/2 years old. But I
wish it could have been longer, and so does Yvonne.
Now I am in this new place, looking back on an
extraordinary life. This is where I belong now.
But I will always have only one forever home – in
Yvonne’s house, and now in her heart.
