Kona Kona’s Story
The Crossings Animal Society Washington Crossing, PA
Kona is a 3-year-old chihuahua/terrier mix
rescued from Alabama. When I first brought her
home, she was shy, scared, and unsure of her
surroundings. But within just a few days, she
began to settle in and feel more secure.
Now, she’s not only the biggest personality in
our home (eg, she insists on hogging the bed)—
she’s the talk of the neighborhood! Kona’s
sweet, outgoing, and full of energy! She adores
our extended family, our neighbors, and pretty
much any other dogs she meets. In fact, when a
dog approaches, Kona often rolls over onto her
back, letting them know she’s friendly and ready
to play when they are.
I think she might be the only pup around with
her own rocking chair, where she loves to sit
outside and watch for squirrels and deer, and
keep an eye on the neighbors (our very own
4-legged Neighborhood Watch). Every so often,
a squirrel won’t notice her in the chair and will
get fairly close to her…then the real action
begins! This little girl loves to be out in the sun,
which makes sense because she’s such a bright
spot in my life.
In addition to being a social butterfly, she’s
charmingly protective. For instance, when
people she doesn’t know come to do yardwork,
she may be inside, but her words of warning to
these strangers are easily heard and understood.
If she happens to be outside when a stranger
approaches, she’s by my side, protecting me
with tenacity. Don’t be fooled by her small
size—whether she’s playing, snuggling, or
protecting, she’s all in.
I feel so lucky and thankful to have rescued
this little girl. Kona has brought so much joy
to me, my family, friends, and everyone in the
neighborhood. She brings light, laughter, and
love into our lives every day—that’s why she’s
extraordinary.
