Third Place Contest Winner

Rosie’s Story

Bensalem, PA
My name is Louise, and I’m 10 years old. My
brother and I have wanted a dog for a long time.
We begged our parents every day for a furry
companion.
Finally, they decided we were grown up enough
to care for a dog. On a Saturday in late 2022, my
parents sneaked off to Women’s Animal Center to
look for a dog to adopt.
My Mom said she and Dad fell in love with Rosie
right away. She had just had surgery for cherry eye,
was wearing a cone, and her hair was all matted.
But Rosie looked so happy and started wagging
her tail the moment my parents walked up to her
kennel. They knew Rosie was the right dog for our
family.
But the shelter was about to close. We had to wait
three long days until the shelter re-opened and be
sure to be the first in line to adopt her.
Three days later, my Mom took us out of school
and fibbed that we had a doctor’s appointment at
noon. What I didn’t know was Dad had gone to the
shelter at 7 a.m., sat down on his lawn chair, and
waited 5 hours to be the first in line to adopt!
I was confused when Mom stopped at Women’s
Animal Center. But when we went inside and saw
Dad waiting with Rosie, I was overjoyed. Rosie
became our dog.
Rosie now rules the household. She loves to
snuggle, pushes up against and squishes us when
we sit or lie down, and steps all over us every
morning when she jumps on the bed. She will stare
us down when we’re late taking her for a walk.
She loves to play with us and never met a dog she
didn’t like.
Rosie’s most gorgeous features are her big, snowy
blue eyes and her white fur. But she’s really
beautiful inside and out.
Rosie I’m so proud that Rosie is the third place winner. I
worked very hard to get her the votes she needed.
I sent a link to my family and friends, posted her on
Women’s Animal Center Instagram, and even made a video telling people
why they should vote for Rosie. And it worked!
