This year we are delighted to have four companion animal entries who are not cats or
dogs.
Bella is a wild burro, captured and held by the Bureau of Land Management in New
Mexico, until she was rescued by Ellen and Steve in 2021. She is dark gray, with a Nubian
cross on her back, typical of the ancient African donkeys.
Bella, as it turns out, was pregnant when she was adopted. Luna is her daughter. Luna
is the friendliest, kindest donkey ever. At 3 years old, she is being trained to be a riding
donkey.

Bella Mina Escobar was found in a dumpster with her sister. They were brought to Ross Mill Mina Escobar
Farm, where the owner took them in. A few weeks later, the Escobars adopted Mina and
her sister.
Henry the turtle “crawled out of a bush and into our hearts. He was tiny and clearly lost,
and no family members could be found. The only thing to do was make him part of our
family. It’s hard to believe that such a tiny creature could fill our hearts with so much joy,
but that’s exactly what he does every day”.
